Start Your Law Firm

Start your law firm

Your practice.
Built on purpose.

Turn the idea of an independent firm into a practical launch plan—whether you are newly admitted or ready to leave an established organization.

01 / Define the practice

Start with the business
you want to build.

Your launch plan should reflect your experience, the clients you want to serve, and the resources you have. Coaching helps you turn those choices into priorities.

  • Clarify services, client focus, and your reasons for ownership
  • Identify initial expenses and ongoing operating needs
  • Choose a realistic timeline and sequence of decisions
  • Consider how clients will discover and engage your firm
02 / Prepare the operation

Build a way to work.

A new practice needs repeatable processes as well as legal knowledge. Work through what happens from the first inquiry to the close of a matter.

  • Plan intake, consultation, and engagement workflows
  • Organize matter opening, documents, calendaring, and follow-up
  • Compare technology needs and administrative options
  • Think through fee structures, billing workflows, and financial organization
03 / Moving from employment

Your experience is an asset.
Ownership is a new role.

For attorneys leaving a large firm, government role, or another organization, planning should account for the support and infrastructure you will need to replace.

  • Map a departure and launch timeline
  • Identify professional and contractual questions to address before leaving
  • Plan your independent client-development approach
  • Choose the systems and support needed to operate on your own

From questions to priorities

Build a launch plan
you can work from.

The decision to open a practice can bring a long list of tasks. Coaching helps you sort that list around your intended work, your available resources, and the decisions that need to come first. Your action plan should make the next step easier to see.

A new attorney may need help understanding the everyday mechanics of practice. An attorney leaving a large firm may need to rebuild the support that an employer previously provided. We begin with your starting point.

Clarify what needs an answer.

Bring your questions about clients, fees, office arrangements, forms, billing, and court or clerk procedures. Identify what belongs in business planning, what needs further investigation, and where additional professional support is appropriate.

Put the decisions in order.

Consider the services you want to offer, the work required to support them, and the costs and responsibilities attached to your choices. Coaching can help you organize those decisions into a launch sequence.

Review what happens next.

Use follow-up sessions to discuss completed actions, unresolved questions, and decisions that have changed. The written 90-day action plan is a working tool for the agreed engagement.

Starting a criminal practice

Prepare for the work
behind the case.

Ralph has advised an attorney preparing to open a criminal practice about forms, motions, suggested fees, and office location. LPOCG builds on that practical perspective through individually scoped coaching.

Your conversations can address how you organize practice resources, prepare questions about local procedures, communicate with prospective clients, and establish business routines around your legal work. A tailored engagement begins by identifying the support you need and the experience you already bring.
