Your first 90 days
in practice.
Questions and priorities for newly admitted and first-generation attorneys.
Admission brings a new title and a new set of everyday decisions. You may be learning how to speak with prospective clients, organize work, find useful practice resources, and understand how an office operates—all at once. If you are the first attorney in your family, you may also be building a professional support network from the ground up.
A coaching conversation can begin with the questions that feel too small, too basic, or too difficult to raise elsewhere. The aim is to identify what needs attention now, what requires further research, and where additional support would help.
Bring these questions to the conversation
- What work do I want to become known for, and what experience do I still need?
- Which parts of my day lack a repeatable process?
- Where am I looking for forms, procedural information, and practical guidance?
- Who can I turn to when a question falls outside my experience?
A useful starting exercise: list three decisions you need to make, three processes you need to understand, and three professional connections you want to develop. That gives your next conversation a clear agenda.
